Waling Agriculture Development Project in Waling, Syangja, Nepal:

Long-Term Agricultural Planning with Heifer Project Nepal

Waling Municipality is actively developing a long-term agricultural development plan and strategy in cooperation with Heifer Project Nepal. This initiative seeks to utilize land efficiently and curb soil degradation caused by rural migration. The plan aims to clearly define what crops or agricultural activities are best suited for specific locations across all 14 wards of the municipality. Experts such as Dr. Ram Chandra Bastakoti and colleagues are involved, emphasizing the importance of informed agricultural planning for both crop cultivation and livestock rearing.

Modern Goat Farming Infrastructure

Another major component of this initiative is the construction of modern goat sheds. The project promotes better livestock productivity, breed quality, and hygienic practices. With 50% subsidies, small-scale farmers—especially women—can build these modern sheds. For instance, a group of women in Ward No. 5 has already established a self-reliant goat-farming group called Deepka Goat Farming, which is embracing modern rearing methods and boosting local livelihoods through livestock.
